Trump accuses Biden of receiving a “free pass” on accessing classified documents.
Former President Donald Trump criticized the handling of his classified documents case compared to President Joe Biden’s case, highlighting the difference in treatment between them. Trump expressed his frustration in a post on Truth Social, mentioning how Biden received a “free pass” from the Department of Justice while he continues to face ongoing legal challenges.
Trump’s comments come ahead of a significant day in Congress, as former special counsel Robert Hur is scheduled to testify before the House Judiciary Committee regarding his decision not to pursue charges against Biden related to mishandling classified documents. Meanwhile, Trump is currently involved in his own federal trial in Florida concerning classified documents.
In his post, Trump pointed out the disparities in how their cases were handled, emphasizing the lack of supervision and security for Biden’s documents compared to his own. He criticized the DOJ for granting Biden and others leniency while he continues to fight legal battles.
During the hearing, Hur will be answering questions about his report on Biden and the decision not to prosecute him. The transcript of his interviews with Biden will also be a focal point of the proceedings, as it was released in response to a House Republican subpoena.
Despite doubts about Biden’s memory and numerous instances of saying “I don’t know” or “I don’t recall” during his deposition, Hur concluded that there was not enough evidence to establish Biden’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
As Hur prepares to testify, CNN reported that he collaborated with the Office of Legislative Affairs at the Justice Department. This hearing will shed more light on the discrepancies in the treatment of Trump and Biden’s classified documents cases.
