Trump Accuses Judge of Violating his Right to Free Speech

Former President Donald Trump criticized U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan for reinstating a gag order against him, stating that it infringes on his right to free speech.

Chutkan, who is overseeing the Washington case where Trump is accused of trying to overturn his 2020 election defeat, reinstated the order on Sunday. This order prohibits Trump from targeting the special counsel prosecuting his case or any potential witnesses.

In a post on Monday, Trump expressed his discontent with the judge’s decision, claiming that it was unconstitutional and violated his First Amendment rights, especially during his presidential campaign.

The gag order was initially imposed at the request of the Justice Department. It was temporarily lifted on October 20th after Trump’s lawyers appealed, but Chutkan reversed this decision on Sunday, as noted in the court’s docket.

Trump continued to criticize Judge Chutkan, calling her a “true Trump hater” and claiming that she is incapable of giving him a fair trial due to her alleged Trump Derangement Syndrome.

Additionally, Trump used his social media platform to target President Joe Biden, suggesting that the lawsuits and indictments against him were politically motivated and should not have been initiated until after the election.

Trump is currently facing four criminal trials, including the federal case related to the 2020 election, a Georgia case concerning attempts to overturn election results, a Florida case involving mishandling of classified documents, and a New York case connected to alleged hush money payments.

He further criticized Biden for not instructing his Justice Department to file lawsuits and indictments against him three years ago, rather than during his campaign. Trump accused Biden of setting a bad precedent and interfering in the election process.

The former president concluded by suggesting that the Biden indictments were intentionally timed to coincide with his presidential campaign, insinuating that this was a form of election interference.
