Trump Administration Directs Federal Agencies to Present Reorganization Plans in Anticipation of Major Job Cuts – One America News Network

The Trump administration released a memo on Wednesday to all federal agencies indicating the need to prepare “reorganization plans” for anticipated downsizing.

The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) alongside the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) provided guidance to agency leaders regarding the workforce reduction process.

This initiative is a further step in executing President Donald Trump’s executive order titled “Implementing The President’s ‘Department of Government Efficiency’ Workforce Optimization Initiative.”

According to the memo, agencies are required to submit these plans by March 13th and prepare for potential “reductions in force.”

“Agencies should look to consolidate overlapping organizational structures; streamline unnecessary management layers; reduce non-essential positions and components; adopt technological solutions to automate routine tasks, allowing staff to focus on high-priority activities; and consider closing or consolidating regional field offices where efficient service delivery allows, while minimizing reliance on outside consultants and contractors,” the memo stated. “In executing these strategies, agencies should align any closures or relocations with return-to-office practices to mitigate excessive relocation costs for individual employees.”

Some exemptions were noted in the memo, specifically for roles “critical to law enforcement, border security, national security, immigration enforcement, or public safety duties.”

The initial phase requires agencies to list divisions and employees performing functions that are not legally mandated and are deemed non-essential during government shutdowns.

For the second phase, OMB and OPM request a detailed outline of “a constructive vision for more effective and productive agency operations moving forward.” These submissions are due by April 14th and should be implemented by September 30th.

Additionally, the requested information includes an informative organizational chart and assurance that each agency has reviewed job descriptions, recent performance evaluations, tenure, and veteran status of all employees.

This directive follows numerous mandates from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which have prompted rapid adjustments among government agencies since its establishment through an executive order by the President on Inauguration Day.

Directed by Elon Musk, DOGE has been assessing various agencies to uncover wasteful spending, identifying thousands of positions that are either redundant or unnecessary.

Over the previous weekend, Musk communicated via X that all federal employees had received an email titled “What did you do last week?” prompting them to submit five bullet points by 11:59 p.m. ET on the following Monday or risk termination.

During a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, President Trump indicated that they would reevaluate the one million staff members who did not respond to the email, acknowledging that some might have been unable to do so due to the nature of their roles.

Those who failed to respond “are at risk,” he remarked, adding, “maybe they’re going to be dismissed.”
