A recent memorandum indicates that the department must remove or temporarily archive DEI content published during the Biden administration by March 5th.
The directive also mandates military branches to withdraw content related to critical race theory and gender ideology.
“In accordance with President Trump’s Executive Orders and Secretary Hegseth’s directives, this memorandum requires a digital content overhaul across all DoD public platforms,” the memo states. “By March 5, 2025, all Components must remove and archive DoD news articles, photos, and videos that promote Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), including materials regarding critical race theory, gender ideology, and identity-based programs. The Defense Media Activity (DMA) will assist in a systematic removal of content from DVIDS and AFPIMS platforms, but Components are required to ensure compliance across all digital properties. A general public notification of content removal should be made via social media and other platforms. Requests for exceptions or extensions must be submitted by noon on March 5, 2025.”
Officials assert that these modifications aim to preserve the integrity of communication channels while ensuring transparency and professionalism.
