The Trump administration has dismissed Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Linda Fagan due to her inadequate response to border security issues, her emphasis on DEI initiatives, and ongoing reports of “leadership deficiencies.”

Benjamine Huffman, acting secretary of Homeland Security, personally terminated the now-former Coast Guard commandant, as reported by Fox News.
A senior Department of Homeland Security (DHS) official revealed that Fagan’s leadership had led to an “erosion of trust” within the Coast Guard.
The loss of trust primarily stemmed from the concealment of findings related to Operation Fouled Anchor, an internal investigation into sexual assault cases at the Coast Guard Academy.
During a hearing connected to Operation Fouled Anchor, senators challenged Fagan on her decision to withhold requested documentation and her failure to hold accountable those implicated.
The DHS official, who requested anonymity, stated that the investigation revealed a “leadership culture” within the organization that failed to protect service members and ensure full transparency.
Fagan faced criticism for inadequately managing Coast Guard resources to support border security operations, including the interception of fentanyl and other illicit substances. Additionally, she reportedly did not meet recruitment targets, causing a “weakening of operational readiness” within the branch.
The Trump administration’s decision to dismiss Fagan indicates a broader trend, as Trump has previously pledged to remove all “woke” military leaders who do not successfully carry out their responsibilities and who prioritize DEI initiatives over skill, intellect, and accomplishments.
“I got to know the real fighting generals. There’s not ‘woke’ in the military. There’s ‘woke’ at the top,” Trump remarked last summer.
“They want there to be woke, but these guys aren’t meant for woke. I would fire them. You can’t have a woke military,” he added.
Trump’s nominee for defense secretary, Pete Hegseth, echoed these sentiments.
“I talked to dozens and dozens of actively serving men and women, junior enlisted and high-ranking officers, and they all said the same thing,” Hegseth noted. “We’re walking on eggshells. There’s no accountability. The standards are being lowered, slowly eroded to conform to woke Marxist ideologies that the Democrat politicians have pushed into the Pentagon. The Pentagon should be the biggest meritocracy in the world. Instead, it’s a social experiment.”
“We all wore green together. We all bleed red together. Who we slept with is not the issue… The issue is how good are you at your job? And are you being promoted because you’re the best rifleman, or you’re the best pilot, or you’re the best tank commander? Not because you were the first to this or the first that. And that’s the story I tell time and time again,” he added.
Fagan made history as the first woman to lead any branch of the U.S. military, taking on the role as the 27th Commandant of the Coast Guard on June 1st, 2022.
