Trump aims to sway LGBT voters from Biden
Former President Donald Trump is aiming to attract LGBT voters away from President Joe Biden ahead of the general election, as reported by the Washington Examiner.
Former first lady Melania Trump is scheduled to host a fundraiser with the Log Cabin Republicans on Saturday, an organization dedicated to representing LGBT conservatives and allies.
The Log Cabin Republicans have been promoting equality for over 40 years through various initiatives, as stated on their website.
Ric Grenell, former ambassador to Germany and the first openly gay person to serve in a Cabinet-level position, will also be in attendance at the fundraiser, according to the Examiner.
LGBT voters accounted for 7% of the electorate in the 2020 general election, with a 93% turnout rate in that demographic, as per the Examiner’s report.
The LGBT community now makes up 8% of the adult population, and over 20% of Generation Z individuals identify as LGBT.
In 2020, about 14% of gay votes went to Trump, which was more than double the support he received in 2016, the Examiner noted.
Charles Moran, president of the Log Cabin group, believes that Trump can significantly increase his support among LGBT voters this year, citing various initiatives and commitments made by Trump in support of the LGBT community.
A poll of 600 LGBT voters showed that 54% are leaning towards or planning to vote for Biden, while 28% are leaning towards or planning to vote for Trump.
The Biden campaign manager emphasized the importance of LGBTQ+ voters and their critical role in the election, while highlighting Biden and Harris’ stance on LGBTQ+ rights.
