Trump Allegedly Informed Trudeau That Canada Could Join the U.S. as the 51st State If Tariff Issues Persist – One America News Network

HERTFORD, ENGLAND - DECEMBER 04: U.S. President Donald Trump (L) and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau (R) participate in the NATO summit at the Grove Hotel on December 4, 2019, in Watford, England. The Treaty of Dunkirk was signed by France and the UK in 1947, post-WW2, establishing a mutual defense alliance in case of an attack from Germany or the Soviet Union. The Benelux countries later joined the agreement, which expanded in April 1949 to include North America and Canada, followed by Portugal, Italy, Norway, Denmark, and Iceland. This collaboration evolved into the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), which welcomed Greece and Turkey as members and admitted a re-armed West Germany in 1955, prompting the creation of the Soviet-led Warsaw Pact, thus defining the Cold War's two sides. This year commemorates the 70th anniversary of NATO. (Photo by Dan Kitwood/Getty Images)

President-elect Donald Trump allegedly proposed to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau last week that if Canada cannot cope with Trump’s tariff strategy, it should consider becoming the 51st state of the U.S.

During a three-hour dinner at his Mar-a-Lago estate, Trump made the comment while discussing his intention to impose a 25% tariff on imports from Canada.

As reported by Fox News, Trudeau urged Trump not to go through with the tariff plan, warning that it could “devastate” Canada’s economy.

“So your country can’t thrive unless it’s profiting off the U.S. to the tune of $100 billion?” Trump reportedly responded, referencing the U.S. trade deficit with Canada.

Trump jokingly remarked that Canada could be the 51st state, with Trudeau as its governor.

However, he acknowledged that “prime minister” was a more suitable title for Trudeau than “governor.”

Trudeau and others present at the dinner laughed “nervously” in reaction to this comment, according to Fox News.

When someone mentioned that Canada would be a “very liberal state,” Trump suggested it could be divided into two states: one liberal and one conservative.

Last month, Trump stated that Canadian goods would face tariffs unless the country took action against illegal immigration and drug trafficking.

The president-elect reiterated his expectations, emphasizing that he anticipated changes from Canada by January 20th, the day he assumes the presidency again.

The 47th president described his dialogue with Trudeau as “very productive” in a Truth Social update on Saturday.
