Trump and Biden Clash Over Debate Topics

The first presidential debate next month between Republican presumptive nominee Donald Trump and incumbent Democrat Joe Biden is already sparking controversy, as reported by the New York Post on Thursday. Both campaigns are pushing for different topics to be covered during the showdown on June 27 in Atlanta on CNN. Moderators Jake Tapper and Dana Bash will ultimately decide on the topics.

Biden’s campaign recently released their wish list, which includes:

1. The Supreme Court’s overturn of Roe v. Wade
2. Trump’s claims of a rigged 2020 election
3. Trump’s economic plan

In contrast, the Trump campaign is pushing for topics like:

• Biden’s response to a porous southern border
• The lack of law and order in America’s cities
• Rampant inflation

Trump’s campaign believes that Biden is trying to avoid discussing his failed record. Trump’s national press secretary Karoline Leavitt commented, “Weak Joe Biden won’t be able to gaslight Americans on live TV when President Trump calls him out for putting Americans last on June 27.”

There are also differences in how each candidate is preparing for the debate. The Biden team is planning extensive debate prep, while Trump has not discussed formal practice sessions and is focused on stump speeches and interviews.

According to Leavitt, “[Biden’s] puppet-masters are in full panic trying to figure out how to prop up their feeble candidate. In contrast, President Trump is out delivering speeches and interviews, talking about bringing back the great Trump economy and securing our borders.”
