Trump and Biden Neck and Neck in Latest ABC Poll
A recent poll conducted by ABC News/Ipsos reveals that President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump are in a tight race for the presidency. Trump is slightly ahead of Biden by two percentage points in the overall results, while Biden leads by one point among registered voters.
The poll surveyed 2,200 adults and showed that Trump was more trusted on handling issues, but Biden scored well on personal attributes. Biden also led Trump by 49% to 45% among likely voters, with a 2 percentage point margin of error.
Expanding the race to include five candidates showed similar results, with Trump at 42%, Biden at 40%, and other candidates trailing behind. Among registered voters, Biden and Trump were tied at 42%, but Biden gained a few percentage points among likely voters.
The poll also highlighted potential risks for Trump, especially if he were to be convicted in his trial in New York. Despite 80% of his supporters saying they would stick with him, 16% expressed reconsideration, which could impact the race.
On the other hand, Biden faced challenges related to his age and job performance. Various metrics showed that many Americans believed he was too old for another term, and approval ratings for his job performance were lower compared to Trump. Additionally, concerns were raised about financial well-being under Biden’s presidency.
In terms of handling issues, Trump led on six out of 10 topics tested in the survey, while Biden excelled in two. Biden performed better on abortion access and healthcare, but Trump was favored on economic, crime, immigration, and foreign policy matters.
The poll also indicated differences in support among demographic groups, with Biden polling weaker among younger Black respondents and stronger among moderates and those who remained financially stable. Independents were evenly split between Biden and Trump.
Overall, the poll surveyed a diverse group of adults and highlighted the various strengths and weaknesses of both candidates in the upcoming election.
