Trump and DeSantis Allegedly Hold Private Meeting in Florida

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has reportedly met with presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump ahead of an early May donor retreat in Palm Beach, which will feature potential 2024 GOP vice-presidential candidates.

The meeting between the former allies turned bitter primary rivals took place in Miami on Sunday. Sources have revealed that DeSantis has agreed to assist Trump’s campaign in some capacity, as reported by The Washington Post.

Despite not having spoken since before the 2024 primary cycle, Trump and DeSantis broke the silence to explore tapping into DeSantis’ strong donor network for the Trump campaign.

Unlike former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, DeSantis suspended his primary campaign after Iowa and endorsed Trump immediately before the New Hampshire polls closed.

The reunion was facilitated by mutual acquaintance Steve Witkoff, a Florida real estate broker, who reached out to the Trump campaign to help reconnect DeSantis with Trump, according to the Post.

“It’s clear to me that a majority of Republican primary voters want to give Donald Trump another chance,” DeSantis stated in a video message. “They watched his presidency get stymied by relentless resistance, and they see Democrats using lawfare to this day to attack him.”

Trump has shown in the past that he is willing to make amends with former critics within the Republican party if they return to support his cause.

Newsmax has reached out to DeSantis’ communications director Bryan Griffin for comment on the report but has not received a response yet.
