Trump Associate and Property Manager Set to Return to Court

The property manager of Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, Carlos De Oliveira, and Trump aide Walt Nauta are due to appear in federal court to face charges related to allegations that Trump illegally kept classified documents at his resort after leaving the White House. De Oliveira is scheduled to be arraigned on charges of conspiracy to obstruct justice, while Nauta is expected to enter a plea for a second time on new charges recently brought against him. Trump himself was also scheduled to be arraigned on the new indictment but filed court papers stating he is not guilty and waived his right to appear. The indictment includes new counts of obstruction and willful retention of national defense information. Trump has pleaded not guilty to criminal charges in three different cases this year and denies any wrongdoing, characterizing the cases as politically motivated. The updated indictment focuses on surveillance footage at Mar-a-Lago, with Trump alleged to have asked for it to be deleted after investigators visited in June 2022 to collect classified documents. Video footage from Mar-a-Lago is said to be crucial to the government’s case, as it allegedly shows Nauta moving boxes in an effort to hide records.
