Trump Believes He Has a Strong Chance of Winning New York

Former President Donald Trump, while speaking to construction workers in midtown Manhattan on his way to his trial proceedings, declared his intention to “make a play for New York” and potentially defeat President Joe Biden in the upcoming presidential election.

“Biden is the worst president in history, and we have some very bad people here, but we have the greatest people, and they’re right behind me, and they all want us to run, and we’re going to run very hard in New York,” Trump said, as reported by The Guardian. “We have a good chance of winning New York, in my opinion. We’re going to give it a shot.”

No Republican presidential candidate has won in New York state since Ronald Reagan in 1984. In 2020, Biden defeated Trump by more than 20 percentage points in New York.

Trump was captured on video engaging with construction workers at around 6:30 a.m. on 48th Street and Park Avenue, asserting his innocence and labeling the charges against him as a politically motivated witch hunt and election interference.

The crowd responded by chanting “USA! USA!” at one point, according to the New York Post.

Supporters who were present mentioned that they woke up early just to catch a glimpse of Trump.

Meanwhile, attorneys representing Trump will be presenting arguments to the U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday in his defense of presidential immunity, although the former president is required to be present in New York City daily for his trial proceedings as ordered by Judge Juan Merchan.

Trump is facing 34 felony counts for allegedly falsifying business records to conceal hush money payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels, who alleges an affair with him. Trump has consistently denied her allegations.
