Trump discusses potential advisory position with Musk

According to the Wall Street Journal, former President Donald Trump and Elon Musk have had discussions about a potential advisory role for Musk should Trump be re-elected as president.

The discussions revolve around giving Musk input and influence over border security and the economy, topics that Musk has also addressed on X, a platform formerly known as Twitter that he now owns, as reported by the Journal.

If appointed, Musk’s role would resemble that of Isaac Perlmutter, a former Marvel chairman, during the first Trump administration, according to the Journal.

Musk had previously been part of a White House business advisory group in the first Trump administration but resigned in 2017 after Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Paris climate accords.

In addition, Musk and billionaire investor Nelson Peltz have proposed a data-driven project to Trump focused on preventing voter fraud, the Journal noted. Musk and Trump reportedly have frequent phone conversations, discussing topics such as immigration, technology, and science.

Musk, aiming to leverage his influence in the business and technology spheres to oppose President Joe Biden, is reportedly concerned about the country’s direction, while Trump admires Musk’s wealth, as per the Journal.

During their conversations, Musk has encouraged Trump to post more on X, where Trump has a substantial following of 87 million, and Musk reinstated Trump to the platform following the Jan. 6, 2021, unrest at the Capitol.

While Musk has previously contributed to both Democratic and Republican causes, he indicated in 2022 that he would support Republican candidates. He cited the Democratic Party’s shift towards division and hate as reasons for his change in stance, urging his followers to vote Republican in the upcoming 2022 midterms.
