Trump expresses support as Nebraska Governor considers Electoral College reform.

Donald Trump commended Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen for his support of a “winner take all” system for the state’s Electoral College votes. This change could potentially earn the former president an additional electoral vote in the upcoming election.

A bill was introduced by state legislators in January to implement the winner-take-all system, which Pillen, a Republican, endorsed on Tuesday. He stated that this change “would bring Nebraska into line with 48 of our fellow states, better reflect the founders’ intent, and ensure our state speaks with one unified voice in presidential elections,” as reported by The Hill.

Trump took to Truth Social to express his gratitude towards Pillen, describing him as “a very smart and popular governor, who has done some really great things.” He praised Pillen’s “bold leadership… in support of returning Nebraska’s Electoral Votes to a Winner-Take-All System.”

He went on to state that “most Nebraskans have wanted to go back to this system for a very long time, because it’s what 48 other states do – it’s what the Founders intended, and it’s right for Nebraska.”

Currently, only Nebraska and Maine allocate Electoral College votes by district. In most elections in Nebraska, Republicans take two districts and Democrats take one, with the third being closely contested.
