Trump Gives His Endorsement to Hung Cao, Virginia Senate Candidate
Former President Donald Trump has officially endorsed retired Navy Capt. Hung Cao in the U.S. Senate race in Virginia.
Cao, who arrived in the U.S. as a refugee from Vietnam in 1975, has served in special operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Somalia. He is one of five candidates vying for the Republican nomination to challenge Democratic incumbent Sen. Tim Kaine in the upcoming general election in November.
Trump shared his endorsement of Cao on Truth Social on Sunday night, praising him as a combat veteran and highly decorated special operations officer who will prioritize stopping inflation, growing the economy, securing the border, supporting the military and veterans, and defending the Second Amendment.
Cao expressed his gratitude for Trump’s endorsement on X, stating that he is honored to receive support from the 45th and 47th President of the United States.
The Virginia primary is set to take place on June 18.
In a previous election in 2022, Cao ran against incumbent Rep. Jennifer Wexton, D-Va., but was defeated by 13 points in a district where President Joe Biden had won by nearly 20 points in 2020.
