President-elect Donald Trump has extended his condolences to the family of former President Jimmy Carter following his passing.

On Sunday, Trump shared a message on his social media platform, Truth Social, regarding Carter’s death.

“I just heard the news about the passing of President Jimmy Carter. Those of us who have had the privilege of serving as President understand it’s a very exclusive club, and we personally relate to the immense responsibility of leading the Greatest Nation in History,” he remarked. “The challenges Jimmy faced during his presidency occurred at a crucial time for our nation, and he did everything possible to enhance the lives of all Americans. For this, we owe him a significant debt of gratitude.”

“Melania and I are keeping the Carter Family and their close ones in our thoughts during this trying time. We encourage everyone to hold them in their hearts and prayers,” he concluded.

On Sunday, the Carter Center announced that the former president passed away at 100 years old, surrounded by family in his home in Plains, Georgia.
