Trump: I Ought to Be Running for Office
Former President Donald Trump issued an apology on Monday to voters in Iowa and New Hampshire for not being able to campaign in those states due to his ongoing criminal trial in New York City.
Speaking to reporters before the trial resumed in Manhattan, Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, expressed his frustrations with the situation.
“I’m here instead of campaigning,” Trump said during a live broadcast on Newsmax and Newsmax2. “I was supposed to be elsewhere this morning, but the judge decided to resume the trial early. It’s been challenging to balance my legal obligations with my political commitments.”
Trump went on to share supportive messages he received from political commentators and lamented his inability to visit Iowa and New Hampshire due to his courtroom obligations. He highlighted the difficulties of spending long hours in a cold courtroom.
After Trump’s remarks, the Biden campaign responded on social media, criticizing Trump for complaining about his legal proceedings.
Trump is facing charges related to falsifying business records to conceal a payment made to adult film star Stormy Daniels by his former attorney Michael Cohen.
During his statement, Trump referenced comments made by legal scholar Alan Dershowitz, a frequent guest on Newsmax, who criticized the prosecution’s handling of the case.
Trump emphasized the notion of selective prosecution and suggested that the legal actions against him were orchestrated by the White House and the Department of Justice.
