Trump in Search of ‘Warrior’ as Vice Presidential Candidate
Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is in search of a vice president who embodies the qualities of a “Goldilocks” candidate and a “fighter,” as reported by the Guardian here on Monday. Sources connected to the former president revealed this information.
This desire for a strong and loyal candidate who can stand up to challenges has been emphasized by Donald Trump Jr., as mentioned in a previous article.
The announcement of Trump’s vice president pick is expected to be made at the Republican National Convention next month.
According to the Guardian, Trump is looking for a candidate who is “strong but loyal, in tune with MAGA but not over-rehearsed, telegenic but not likely to outshine him”—essentially, someone who differs from Mike Pence, Trump’s VP in 2016.
Reported by both the Guardian and Politico, the top three candidates on Trump’s list are:
- Doug Burgum, outgoing governor of North Dakota
- Sen. J.D. Vance, R-Ohio
- Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla.
Additionally, Trump’s campaign has been in touch with Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., as reported here.
However, a constitutional obstacle may arise if Rubio is chosen, as the 12th Amendment restricts the president and vice president from being inhabitants of the same state.
Other potential running mates include Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., and Dr. Ben Carson.
