President-elect Donald Trump has extended an invitation to Chinese President Xi Jinping to join him for his inauguration ceremony at the White House in January, as reported by various sources.

The invitation was reportedly sent shortly after Trump’s victory over Vice President Kamala Harris on Election Day, according to a report from CBS News on Wednesday.
However, it is still uncertain whether President Xi will accept the invitation.
Furthermore, a spokesperson for the Trump-Vance transition team refrained from confirming or denying the possibility of Xi making a historic appearance at the inauguration scheduled for January 20th.
“World leaders are eager to engage with President Trump because they recognize he is on the verge of reclaiming power and reinstating global peace through American strength,” stated Trump-Vance transition spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt.
According to CBS News, records from the State Department dating back to 1874 show that no foreign leader has attended a U.S. presidential inauguration.
At 71, Xi may not be the only international figure considering attendance at the swearing-in ceremony.
According to reports, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who was frequently mentioned by Trump during his campaign and met with him at Mar-a-Lago this week, is “still weighing” the decision to attend Trump’s second inauguration.
The invitation to Xi follows Trump’s recent statements regarding the imposition of substantial new tariffs on imports from China.
In other developments, the 47th president has been engaging with several world leaders as part of his preparations for taking office.
Recent visits to Palm Beach, Florida, where Trump’s transition team is based, have included Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Argentinian President Javier Milei, and Orbán.
