Trump Leading Biden by 8 Points on Economy in FT Poll

With 80% of registered voters citing rising prices as one of their top financial worries, Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, is leading President Joe Biden in terms of handling the economy, as shown in the recent Financial Times-Michigan Ross poll released on Sunday.

The analysis of the poll indicates that Trump continues to have the edge over Biden when it comes to economic matters, with 43% of voters trusting Trump more compared to 35% trusting Biden. This 8-point gap is widening, with Trump gaining 2 points since the previous poll.

Only 28% of voters believe Biden has positively impacted the economy, a decrease of 4 points. Biden receives a 58% disapproval rating on the economy, contrasted with a 40% approval rating.

According to the analysis of the poll results, voters are still holding Biden accountable for the high prices of consumer goods like petrol and food, without acknowledging his contributions to a flourishing economy and a robust job market.

While the inflation rates under Biden have slowed, they remain well above the Federal Reserve’s 2% target.

Additional key findings from the poll include:

• 49% of voters are concerned about income levels, an increase of 4 points from the previous month.
• 32% are worried about housing costs, a rise of 5 points.

The Financial Times-Michigan Ross poll, conducted between May 2-6 among 1,003 registered voters nationwide, involved Democratic strategists Global Strategy Group and Republican pollster North Star Opinion Research. The results have a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
