Trump Leading GOP and Biden in YouGov Poll
According to the latest YouGov/The Economist poll released Wednesday, former President Donald Trump is outperforming Republicans on the generic congressional ballot for the 2024 elections. In the poll, Trump leads President Joe Biden 43%-42% nationwide. He also leads former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley in the Republican Party primary by 79%-14%.
It is important to note that Trump’s lead on Biden is in a poll that favors the Democrat (43%) over the Republican (41%) by 2 points on the generic congressional ballot.
Additionally, both Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have negative favorability ratings, and 67% of respondents say Hunter Biden profited off his father’s political office. Notably, 50% of respondents also say Joe Biden profited off his political status.
Other findings from the poll include a plurality of 35% saying New York’s $364 million fraud ruling against Trump was too harsh and U.S. adults being 12 points more likely to say Russia is winning its war in Ukraine despite just 5% saying they are sympathetic to Russia.
The poll was conducted by YouGov and polled 1,562 U.S. adult citizens from Feb. 18-20 for The Economist, with a margin of error of 3.1 percentage points.
