Trump leads Biden by 2 points in latest Florida poll

According to a recent poll by the University of North Florida (UNF), Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is leading President Joe Biden by two points in Florida.

The survey conducted by UNF shows Trump with a 47% lead over Biden’s 45% among likely voters. 4% indicated they would choose someone else, while 3% were undecided. The poll did not account for third-party candidates like Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in a hypothetical multi-candidate scenario.

Interestingly, 6% of voters who supported Biden in the 2020 election now intend to vote for Trump in the upcoming election, while another 4% are considering voting for someone else in November.

In the 2020 election, Trump won Florida by 3 points, with a 51% to 48% victory over Biden. Currently, Trump holds a narrow lead of 0.3 points over Biden in national polling averages for the 2024 election, as reported by RealClearPolitics.

Michael Binder, the faculty director of the Public Research Lab at UNF, predicts a tight race in the upcoming election, stating, “It will likely be a very close race six months from now.”

The survey also revealed low favorability ratings for both Biden (57% unfavorable) and Trump (54% unfavorable) in Florida. RFK Jr., on the other hand, received a 35% favorable rating compared to 34% unfavorable, with 31% expressing uncertainty.

When asked about their opinion on the candidates, Binder noted, “Voters across the board don’t seem to be huge fans of any of these candidates, even within their own parties.” He pointed out that 15% of respondents have an unfavorable view of both Biden and Trump, with 5% disliking all three candidates.

The top issue for Floridians in the November election was the economy, with 27% citing it as the most important issue. This was followed by immigration/border control at 11% and abortion/women’s rights at 10%.

The survey was conducted by UNF’s Public Opinion Research Lab among 745 likely voters from April 9-20, with a margin of sampling error of 4.2 percentage points.
