Trump open to pardoning Jan. 6 insurrectionists
Should he secure a second term in November, former President Donald Trump has expressed the possibility of pardoning all defendants involved in the Jan. 6 incident.
In an exclusive interview with Time magazine, Trump discussed the individuals who were arrested during the Jan. 6, 2021, attack at the U.S. Capitol.
Over 800 people have either pleaded guilty or been convicted for their actions on that day.
Trump referred to them as the “J-6 patriots” and confirmed his willingness to consider pardoning all defendants.
On the day of the Capitol attack, Congress was in the process of certifying the 2020 Electoral College results.
During his conversation with Time, Trump did not rule out the potential for political violence surrounding this year’s election.
Trump is currently facing criminal charges related to his efforts to overturn the 2020 election results, both nationally and in Georgia. These trials are not expected to conclude before the upcoming election.
Expressing his concern, Trump stated, “I think the enemy from within, in many cases, is much more dangerous for our country than the outside enemies of China, Russia, and various others.”
Despite facing legal challenges, Trump has asserted immunity from prosecution. The U.S. Supreme Court recently heard arguments on the topic of presidential immunity from criminal charges.
