Trump plans to hold rally in the swing state of Nevada amidst a scorching heatwave

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is set to host an outdoor rally in the hot city of Las Vegas, Nevada on Sunday. This event aims to consolidate support in a swing state where he has previously lost, but current polls indicate he may have an advantage in the upcoming Nov. 5 election.

During a town hall event in Arizona, another important battleground state, Trump addressed supporters and outlined his plans to address illegal immigration issues at the southern border, laying blame on his Democratic opponent, President Joe Biden.

His Las Vegas speech will focus on immigration and criticize the inflation surge following the pandemic under Biden’s administration, as stated by his campaign.

The weather forecast predicts scorching heat with temperatures rising to 97 degrees Fahrenheit (36 degrees Celsius) by noon when Trump is expected to take the stage, peaking at 102 degrees by 3 p.m., according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

In preparation for the extreme heat, the Trump campaign urges attendees to dress appropriately, stay hydrated, and assures the availability of water bottles, misting stations, cooling stations, and medical staff on site for emergencies. The excessive heat warning for Las Vegas is set to expire before the event on Saturday evening, part of a heatwave affecting the U.S. Southwest.

The precautions aim to prevent incidents of heat exhaustion like those experienced at Trump’s Arizona event, where multiple individuals had to be hospitalized after waiting for hours in extreme heat.

Nevada is a crucial swing state in the election, with recent polls showing Trump leading Biden by five percentage points, reflecting the overall polling trends from sources like FiveThirtyEight. However, political science professor Rebecca Gill from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas remains cautious, suggesting that voter sentiment may shift closer to the election date.

Gill also points out that Trump’s criminal conviction may have consequences on his moderate Republican support, and a potential ballot amendment on abortion rights could bolster Democratic turnout.

Sunday’s rally follows a successful fundraising tour by Trump in San Francisco and Beverly Hills, where he secured substantial donations from tech executives and other contributors.
