Trump Posts $91.63 Million Bond in E. Jean Carroll Lawsuit
According to CNN, former President Donald Trump has posted a $91.63 million bond in the E. Jean Carroll defamation case.
The notice of Trump’s bond was filed with the federal court in New York, as reported by CNN.
In January, a federal jury awarded Carroll $83.3 million in damages after determining that Trump had defamed her in 2019 by denying allegations of rape in the mid-1990s.
Judge Lewis Kaplan finalized the verdict on Feb. 8, giving Trump 30 days to post a bond or come up with cash for his appeal.
Trump is seeking a reduction of the jury award, claiming it is excessive.
On Thursday, a federal judge denied Trump’s request to delay enforcement of the verdict.
Trump’s lawyers argued against posting a large bond, insisting that Carroll’s financial interests are protected with a $24.5 million bond.
Trump, a leading candidate for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, also faces a deadline to provide $454 million in the civil fraud case brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James.
Additionally, Trump is facing charges in four separate criminal cases.
