Trump Promises to Deploy Military for Deporting Illegal Immigrants

Former President Donald Trump has promised to utilize the National Guard or other military troops for the deportation of millions of illegal immigrants if he is re-elected for another term in the White House.

In an exclusive interview with Time magazine, Trump discussed his plans for tackling the escalating migrant crisis, which has seen a surge in border crossings during President Joe Biden’s administration.

Trump stated that he would consider building migrant detention camps, restarting the construction of a border wall between the U.S. and Mexico, and reinstating policies like “Remain in Mexico” and Title 42.

These policies required asylum seekers to stay in Mexico until their court dates and allowed border officials to expel migrants for health reasons.

Trump’s advisors mentioned that the increase in fentanyl trafficking and child trafficking would justify the reimplementation of these emergency measures.

Trump reportedly plans to fund the border wall by reallocating funds from the military budget without congressional approval, as per Time’s report.

The major initiative would involve the mass deportation of over 11 million undocumented immigrants, with Trump intending to rely primarily on the National Guard for this operation.

If necessary, Trump stated he would involve other branches of the military in the deportation process.

When asked about potentially overriding the Posse Comitatus Act, which prohibits military action against civilians, Trump argued that the law would not apply in this case as these individuals are not legal residents of the country.

Trump also mentioned that local police would be expected to assist in the deportation efforts, threatening funding denial for those who refuse to cooperate.

Former acting head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement Tom Homan, a Trump advisor, emphasized the need for deportations, stating that “no one should be off the table.”

Trump is considering a border security and immigration package alongside a bill to extend his 2017 tax cuts as part of his agenda for a potential second term.

A rematch between Trump and Biden seems likely for the November election, as indicated by a recent CNN poll showing Trump leading Biden by 6 percentage points.
