“Over the past four years, our Service Academies have been compromised by Woke Leftist Ideologues. I have ordered the immediate removal of the Board of Visitors for the Army, Air Force, Navy, and Coast Guard,” Trump shared on Truth Social.
“We intend to establish the strongest Military in History, starting with the appointment of new individuals to these Boards. Our Military Academies must be made GREAT AGAIN!”
Members of the Boards of Visitors are appointed by the president, vice president, and members of Congress, with presidential appointees serving three-year terms.
The Board’s role is to provide guidance and recommendations to academy officials concerning the operation of each institution.
In September 2021, President Joe Biden dismissed Trump’s initial appointees, instructing 18 board members to resign.
The individuals removed from their positions included Trump appointees like Kellyanne Conway, Sean Spicer, Russ Vought, and Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster.
Under the Biden administration, liberal ideologies began to take root across multiple service academies.
For instance, in October 2023, the Merchant Marine Academy, which is one of the nation’s five military academies, introduced a new policy permitting midshipmen undergoing gender transitions to request exemptions from their military service obligations.
Last year, then-Representative Jim Banks (R-Ind.) criticized West Point’s decision to eliminate its “Duty, Honor, Country” motto from its mission statement, substituting it with the more generic “Army Values.”
Since Trump resumed his presidency, he has tasked Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth with dismissing transgender military personnel, discontinuing DEI initiatives, and reinstating service members who were discharged for refusing the COVID-19 vaccine.
