Trump Requests Share of Funds Generated from Use of His Name and Image
According to a report from Politico, the Trump campaign is asking Republican candidates and groups to share a portion of the funds they raise by using Donald Trump’s name, image, or likeness in donation solicitations.
In a recent letter, Trump campaign co-chairs Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles requested that Republican candidates and committees who utilize Trump’s name or likeness contribute at least 5% of the proceeds to the former president’s joint fundraising committee.
The letter specifies that starting immediately, any candidate or committee using Trump’s name or image must allocate a minimum of 5% of all fundraising appeals to the Trump National Committee JFC. The letter also outlines guidelines for vendors to follow to ensure they do not imply that a candidate or group represents Trump.
If vendors fail to comply with the guidelines, they may face consequences such as the termination of business relationships with the Trump National Committee JFC. The letter emphasizes the importance of protecting donors from being misled into thinking they are donating directly to the Trump campaign.
In a statement, a Trump campaign spokesperson mentioned the need to safeguard the Trump brand and prevent donors from mistakenly contributing to unauthorized causes. The spokesperson emphasized the popularity of Trump’s brand and the importance of ensuring that donations are properly allocated.
