President Donald Trump revealed the design of his new $5 million “gold cards,” which allow wealthy foreigners the opportunity to live or work in the U.S. while providing a pathway to citizenship in return for a $5 million investment.

Previously, Trump announced plans to start selling gold cards back in February.
During the announcement, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick stated that 1,000 Gold Cards had already been sold, generating $5 billion in revenue for the United States.
“For $5 million, you could own this. It’s the first of the cards. Do you know what it is? It’s the Gold Card, the Trump Card, Gold Card,” Trump proclaimed aboard Air Force One, showcasing the gleaming card with his image.
Trump also stated that the card would “be out in less than two weeks, probably.”
The gold card initiative is anticipated to eventually replace the EB-5 visa program, which allows foreigners to gain a green card after investing in a U.S. business that creates or preserves jobs, with investment amounts varying from $800,000 to $1,050,000 depending on the investment location.
“Currently, there’s a line for EB-5 of 250,000. If we sell 200,000 gold green cards, that could lead to $1 trillion to help alleviate our debt,” Lutnick remarked.
In 2024 alone, more than 12,000 EB-5 visas were issued.
While President Trump’s new gold card system has generated interest, it has also sparked discussions about its perceived “fairness.”
Lutnick estimates that approximately 37 million individuals globally could afford the gold card, potentially introducing a significant revenue source to tackle the rising U.S. national debt, which has exceeded $36.22 trillion.
During his brief discussion about the cards with reporters on Air Force One, President Trump was also questioned about the repercussions of his recently imposed tariffs on financial markets.
“Well, it’s expected; this is a patient that was very ill. We inherited a challenging economy, as you know, with many issues, including the loss of manufacturing and closure of plants nationwide. We’ve lost 90,000 plants since NAFTA, which is staggering. Approximately 6 million jobs are gone. We had a sick situation that underwent surgery on liberation day. It’s bound to be a vibrant economy, actually amazing. We see it because we have trillions of dollars coming in,” Trump conveyed.
