Punchbowl News was the first to report that the 78-year-old president is set to join the festivities for America’s premier annual sporting event.
His presence will necessitate heightened security measures, particularly following a recent tragic incident where an ISIS terrorist drove a truck through large crowds celebrating New Year’s Eve on Bourbon Street, resulting in fourteen fatalities and numerous injuries.
Additionally, the president will be featured in an interview with Fox News host Bret Baier, scheduled to air during the network’s pregame show at 3 p.m., just ahead of the game starting at 6:30 p.m. The Kansas City Chiefs will be facing off against the Philadelphia Eagles.
It remains unclear which team he is likely to support, especially after winning Pennsylvania and Missouri in last November’s presidential election.
In the history of the Super Bowl, four sitting vice presidents have made appearances at the event. In 1971, Spiro Agnew, a Baltimore Colts supporter, witnessed the Colts defeat the Dallas Cowboys, 16-13, at the Orange Bowl in Miami.
George H.W. Bush saw the San Francisco 49ers capture their first Super Bowl title, edging out the Cincinnati Bengals 26-21 at Michigan’s Silverdome.
Al Gore attended the game at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, where the Dallas Cowboys triumphed over the Buffalo Bills with a score of 30-13.
More recently, former Vice President Mike Pence attended Super Bowl LI in Houston, where he watched the New England Patriots achieve the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history, overcoming a 28-3 deficit against the Atlanta Falcons to win, 34-28 in overtime.
This year’s championship match will be a rematch of Super Bowl 57, where the Chiefs narrowly defeated the Eagles 38-35.
