On Tuesday, President Donald Trump expressed his unwavering support for National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, just a day after it was revealed that Waltz had inadvertently invited the editor-in-chief of Atlantic magazine into discussions on plans concerning the Houthis in Yemen earlier this month.

“Michael Waltz has gained valuable insight, and he is a commendable individual,” the president stated in a short interview with NBC News on Tuesday.
The 47th president further noted that including Jeffrey Goldberg in a Signal group chat that comprised Vice President JD Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio had “no effect whatsoever” on the airstrikes conducted on March 15th in Yemen, which Trump described as “entirely successful.”
Amid increasing concerns regarding Waltz’s future following the leaked plans, the Trump administration has consistently voiced its confidence in Waltz’s capabilities to fulfill his role.
In addition, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt issued a statement on Tuesday morning clarifying that no “war plans” or “classified documents” were communicated through the Signal app.

Senator Mark Warner (D-Va.), serving as vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, tweeted that both Waltz and Hegseth should step down, stating: “When the stakes are this high, incompetence is not an option.”

Nevertheless, a source with insider knowledge of the situation within the Trump administration asserted that “Trump is aware that he cannot yield to left-wing radicals. They merely want a scalp, and if he sacrifices his NSA, they will shift their focus to his cabinet.”
This development followed Goldberg’s report on Monday that he had been added to a Signal group chat by Waltz. The National Security Council confirmed the authenticity of the group messaging.
Goldberg’s revealing article indicated that he made contact with Waltz via Signal on March 11th and was included in a chat titled “Houthi PC small group.”
Experts believe that the reasoning behind Goldberg’s inclusion in the chat may be attributed to the coincidence of his Signal profile name “JG” matching the initials of U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, who often participates in National Security Council meetings.
During an appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Goldberg struggled to clarify how he was suggested as a contact on Waltz’s device.
