In one of his initial executive actions, President Donald Trump mandated the termination of the mobile app established by the Biden administration, which migrants had used to secure visas and enter the U.S., thus canceling all pending appointments.

The CBP One app previously enabled migrants to file their asylum requests by scheduling meetings with Customs and Border Protection (CBP) representatives.
Approximately 270,000 migrants awaiting appointments in Mexico will now face extended delays for their cases to be processed as the Trump administration enforces stricter immigration reform measures.
Up to 1,450 migrants had been permitted to book immigration appointments daily, with many using the app to enter the United States during the Biden era.
Recent video footage depicts migrants outside the Southern border openly sobbing upon discovering their appointments had been canceled.
“As of January 20, 2025, at 12:00 PM Eastern Time, the functions of CBP ONE that previously enabled undocumented individuals to submit advance information and schedule appointments at eight southwest border ports of entry are no longer accessible. All appointments have been canceled,” the agency stated.
According to CBP, around 96,000 foreign nationals interacted with border officials in December, with roughly half seeking formal admission into the United States.
The CBP app was integral to the Biden administration’s efforts to promote “legal” immigration to the U.S., even as illegal immigration continued to rise due to the Democrats’ lenient “catch and release” border policies.
In 2024, NYC Mayor Eric Adams faced criticism from within his own party for requesting additional federal funding from Biden to manage the influx of illegal immigrants who were engaging in violent crimes and utilizing taxpayer resources.
Analysts suggest that facilitating legal entry via the app enabled the Biden administration to claim they were addressing illegal immigration by promoting “legal” pathways.
Moreover, as migrants recognized that Democrat-led initiatives were providing them with taxpayer-funded essentials such as clothing, food, and housing through migrant debit cards—amounts varying based on family size—they might likely gravitate towards becoming future Democrat voters.
President Trump is anticipated to enact further executive orders aimed at reversing many of Biden’s problematic border policies.
“I will declare a national emergency at our southern border. All illegal entry will immediately cease, and we will initiate the process of deporting millions of criminal aliens back to their home countries,” Trump asserted prior to his inauguration.
“We will reinstate my remain in Mexico policy, end catch and release, and deploy troops to the southern border to combat the ongoing invasion of our nation. Additionally, we will designate cartels as foreign terrorist organizations,” Trump added.
“By invoking the Alien Enemies Act of 1798, I will direct our government to leverage the full power of federal and state law enforcement to eradicate all foreign gangs and criminal networks responsible for inflicting devastating crime on American soil, particularly in our cities,” he emphasized.
The Remain in Mexico policy, introduced during Trump’s initial term, mandates that migrants seeking asylum must remain in Mexico while their cases are processed, serving as a deterrent to migration to the United States.
