According to Fox News Digital, the celebration is scheduled for June 14th, coinciding with the 250th birthday of the U.S. Army and Trump’s own birthday.
“We cherish our military and take immense pride in acknowledging our service members,” said Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth in a statement on Friday to Fox News. “To honor 250 years of the U.S. Army, we will host the largest and most spectacular military parade in our nation’s history.”
The event is set to take place at the National Mall in Washington, D.C., and based on planning documents obtained by the Associated Press, it will feature around 6,600 troops, 150 vehicles, 50 helicopters, seven bands, and a large number of citizens.
Soldiers from no fewer than 11 corps and divisions, including Stryker, Bradley, and Paladin artillery units, along with howitzers and tanks, are expected to partake in the festivities.
The parade plans also include seven Army bands and Golden Knights parachute jumpers.
The event is designated as a national special security event, concluding with a concert and fireworks display.
The White House has confirmed that the parade will showcase historical re-enactors and equipment representing various conflicts, including the Revolutionary War, Civil War, Spanish-American War, World War I, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Gulf War, and the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars.
Active-duty service members and students from U.S. military academies will also participate in the parade.
“The president is orchestrating a historic celebration for the Army’s 250th birthday that will honor countless selfless Americans who have sacrificed everything for our freedom,” stated Vince Haley, Director of the White House Domestic Policy Council, to Fox News.
“Exactly 250 years ago, the first American patriots gave their lives for the cause of Independence,” Haley added. “We owe our freedom to them and to every soldier who has laid down their life for our nation over the last 250 years.”
Since 2018, Trump has expressed a desire to hold a parade celebrating the nation’s soldiers, inspired by a French military display he witnessed in 2017, remarking, “We’re going to have to try to top it.”
Back then, plans for the parade faced multiple obstacles, including concerns from defense officials about the estimated cost of $92 million and worries from city leaders about potential damage to roads caused by heavy military vehicles like tanks and airplanes.
