Trump urges Adams and Cuomo to oppose new New York law

Former President Donald Trump, who is facing a damages trial in the case of journalist E. Jean Carroll’s claims against him, Wednesday called on New York City Mayor Eric Adams and former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo to fight back against an “unfair and unconstitutional” New York law that allowed them to be sued sexual assault complaints stemming from decades-old allegations.

“I hope that Mayor Eric Adams, Andrew Cuomo, and all of the others that got sued based on this ridiculous law where someone can be sued decades later, and with no proof, will fight it on being totally unfair and UNCONSTITUTIONAL,” Trump posted on his Truth Social page early Wednesday.

“I got sued, decades later (she has no idea when her made up event took place!), by a woman – I HAD NO IDEA WHO SHE WAS,” he added. “It was a made up fairytale that was brought and funded by political operatives for purposes of Election Interference.”

A New York City jury awarded Carroll $5 million in damages in May, ruling that Trump was liable for assault and defamation against her, but not for rape. ​​

Trump has continued to deny her repeated claims that he raped her in the mid-1990s in a New York City department store changing room and says he has no idea who she is.

Carroll is also seeking another $10 million from Trump in compensatory damages through a defamation lawsuit after he told a reporter that she was not his “type” and after he labeled her as a “whack job” during a CNN town hall.

He did not mention Carroll by name in his Wednesday post.

The lawsuits filed against Adams and Cuomo came under the Adult Survivors Act, which was passed in 2022 by New York Governor Kathy Hochul to temporarily extend the 20-year statute of limitations by one year for people filing sexual assault complaints in the state.

The law expired last Friday.

Adams was sued last week by a woman who accuses him of sexually assaulting her in 1993 while he was working as a New York City Police Department transit officer. She is seeking $5 million in the lawsuit.

Cuomo, meanwhile, is facing a lawsuit from a former aide, Brittany Commisso, who is accusing him of sexual harassment. Like in the Adams case, Commisso filed her lawsuit in New York this week, just ahead of the state’s deadline under the Adult Survivors Act.

She says that while she worked in Cuomo’s office from 2019-2021, the then-governor had allegedly subjected her to “continuous sexual harassment.”

Trump also on Wednesday railed against MSNBC, accusing the network of slamming him and the Republican Party “for purposes of election interference” and called on the government to “come down hard on them.”

“Brian Roberts, its Chairman and CEO, is a slimeball who has been able to get away with these constant attacks for years,” Trump wrote. “It is the world’s biggest political contribution to the Radical Left Democrats who, by the way, are destroying our Country. Our so-called “government” should come down hard on them and make them pay for their illegal political activity. Much more to come, watch!”

Trump did not detail what led to his attack against MSNBC, or elaborate on his comment about there being more to come.
