Trump Urges Europe to Match US Spending

Hungary’s Viktor Orban has stirred controversy by claiming that former President Donald Trump told him Ukraine’s lethal aid would cease if Trump won the White House. However, Trump clarified that his message was about encouraging Europe to increase its spending.

“What I conveyed to Orban is that Europe is only investing a small fraction of what the United States is spending on defense. When you combine all the European nations, their economy is nearly equivalent to ours, but they are not contributing as much,” Trump shared with Newsmax‘s “Greg Kelly Reports” during an exclusive interview at Mar-a-Lago.

“Moreover, they are facing greater threats than us, considering they don’t have an ocean separating them like we do.”

He compared the situation to his calls for NATO countries to fulfill their defense spending commitments, which resulted in increased contributions during his presidency.

“Europe needs to step up its spending,” he emphasized. “I faced a similar issue with NATO. When countries were not meeting their obligations, I made it clear that we would not provide protection unless they paid their fair share.

“Europe is lagging about $100 billion behind in aid to Ukraine, and that needs to be addressed.”

Trump reiterated that his stance is part of an America First agenda, not an anti-Ukraine one.

“It’s an issue of fairness,” he stated. “It is unfair to American taxpayers when we are shouldering the majority of the burden.

“Europe must contribute its fair share. They did it with NATO, and they can do it with Ukraine if someone is there to demand it.”

“Do you think Biden is pressuring them to step up? I doubt it,” he added.
