Trump’s Proposal to Acquire Greenland: ‘Not an Outlandish Idea’ – One America News Network

Former NATO supreme allied commander James Stavridis remarked that he doesn’t find President-elect Donald Trump’s desire to acquire Greenland to be “crazy.”

The incoming 47th president has amplified his calls to acquire Greenland, an idea he has entertained since his first term.
“For the sake of National Security and Freedom around the globe, the United States of America believes that controlling Greenland is absolutely essential,” Trump stated in a recent announcement.
Vice President-elect JD Vance noted, “Greenland is vital for America, strategically. It is rich in valuable natural resources… The Danish government has not sufficiently protected Greenland. There is a genuine opportunity for us to take charge,” during a Sunday appearance on Fox News.
Denmark currently governs Greenland, even as the island has established a Self-Government Act in 2009, indicating its aspiration for independence.
Greenland’s leader, Múte Egede, has also shown interest in discussing with Trump the future of the island, stating, “We do not want to be Danish, we do not want to be American. We want to be Greenlandic.”
Despite Egede’s concerns regarding a potential U.S. acquisition, Stavridis expressed his support for Trump’s initiative.
“It’s not a far-fetched idea…. We could significantly enhance business, investments, counter Russian and Chinese interests, and collaborate closely with Greenland,” he stated during a Sunday session on “The Cats Roundtable” with John Catsimatidis.
“It is located at the very top of the North Atlantic; it secures approaches to our own country,” Stavridis said, emphasizing the island’s value as a “strategic goldmine for the United States.”
“Its geographical significance is immense. It is rich in strategic minerals, rare earth elements, and likely substantial gold deposits. It possesses numerous natural resources,” he added. “It doesn’t necessarily need to become the 51st state, but it could certainly present an economic target for us. I believe that’s how this will unfold.”
Stavridis also acknowledged Egede’s remarks, stating, “The prime minister of Greenland said, ‘We are not for sale, but we are open for business’ – we should definitely take him seriously.”
