Tuberville tells Newsmax: Gag Order Won’t Stop Backing Trump
In a recent interview with Newsmax, Senator Tommy Tuberville, a Republican from Alabama, criticized the weaponization of the criminal justice system and a gag order that he believes is stifling former President Donald Trump’s defense in his New York business documents trial.
Tuberville expressed his disappointment with the trial but mentioned that Trump remains in good spirits. Other allies who attended the trial described it as a “sham.”
During an appearance on Tuesday’s “The Chris Salcedo Show,” Tuberville raised concerns about the restrictions placed on Trump’s defense team, stating, “This judge has everyone tied up… This gag order is unfair. It’s a misuse of the political system.” Tuberville highlighted the lack of freedom for Trump’s supporters to express themselves compared to the leniency shown to critics.
“I was very disappointed with how the whole process unfolded, but President Trump remains positive,” Tuberville said, reflecting on his recent interactions with Trump. He called on more lawmakers to visit Trump and help challenge the gag order, expressing their commitment to advocating for the former president.
Four other allies of Trump, including potential running mates for the presumed GOP nominee, also attended the trial in New York City, presenting a united front.
House Speaker Mike Johnson, North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, Vivek Ramaswamy, and Florida Representatives Byron Donalds and Cory Mills all expressed their dissatisfaction with the trial, labeling it a “sham,” according to a report by Newsmax.
Despite the gag order prohibiting Trump from making attacks on prosecutors, witnesses, or the judge’s family, his supporters at the trial criticized the proceedings and the individuals involved. They questioned the motives of Judge Juan Merchan, District Attorney Alvin Bragg, and star witness Michael Cohen.
The presence of Trump’s allies serves as a reminder of the ongoing political and legal challenges facing the former president, despite his prominent position within the Republican Party and his status as the leading 2024 presidential candidate.
The trial has become a focal point for Trump’s supporters, who view it as an attack on his political influence and his right to defend himself.
