On Wednesday, an incident occurred at the Marana Regional Airport, located northwest of Tucson. The Marana Police Department confirmed the fatalities of at least two people.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) reported that the involved aircraft were identified as a Cessna 172S and a Lancair 360 MK II.
The NTSB indicated that the planes “collided while upwind of runway 12,” which is one of the two runways at the airport.
The Cessna managed to land “uneventfully,” but the Lancair crashed onto the ground near the other runway, resulting in “a post-impact fire.”
Details regarding the victims or the circumstances surrounding the collision have not yet been disclosed.
Presently, the NTSB and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are investigating the incident.
