On Saturday, the Iranian judiciary announced that two judges, who were involved in espionage and terrorism cases, were shot dead at the Supreme Court in Tehran.

The deceased judges were identified as mid-ranking Shi’ite Muslim clerics, Mohammad Moghiseh and Ali Razini.

According to the judiciary, the assailant fatally shot himself after the attack, and a bodyguard of one of the judges was also injured.

Although the reason behind the attack remains under investigation, judiciary spokesperson Asghar Jahangir informed state television that the judges had a long history of dealing with “national security cases, including espionage and terrorism.”

“Over the past year, the judiciary has made considerable efforts to uncover spies and terrorist organizations, which has incited anger and frustration among adversaries,” he stated.
