U.S. authorities have notified the public that they obtained intelligence from a human source of a potential assassination plot by Iran against former President Donald J. Trump.

In response to the news of the threat, Secret Service ramped up Trump’s security detail weeks prior to the failed assassination attempt that occurred on Saturday.

According to the source, the Secret Service (USSS) warned the Trump campaign not to hold rallies outside due to difficulties controlling access.

“Secret Service learned of the increased threat from this threat steam,” a U.S. national security official told CNN. “NSC directly contracted USSS at a senior level to be absolutely sure they continued to track the latest reporting. USSS shared this information with the detail lead, and the Trump campaign was made aware of an evolving threat. In response to the increased threat, Secret Service surged resources and assets for the protection of former President Trump. All of this was in advance of Saturday.”

National Security Council (NSC) spokesperson, Adrienne Watson, says that at this time, there is no known connection between Iran and the would-be Trump assassin, Thomas Matthew Crooks.

“The investigation of Saturday’s attempted assassination of former President Trump is active and ongoing. At this time, law enforcement has reported that their investigation has not identified ties between the shooter and any accomplice or co-conspirator, foreign or domestic,” Watson said.

Since the U.S. killed Qasem Soleimani, the commander of the Iranian military’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in January 2020, Iran has vowed to take revenge.
