In a significant move, the U.S. military has executed coordinated airstrikes, commanded by President Donald Trump, targeting ISIS operatives in Somalia. This marks the first operation conducted in the African nation under the new Trump administration.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced on Saturday that these strikes by U.S. Africa Command were directed by Trump and were executed in coordination with the Somali government.

“These killers, who we found hiding in caves, threatened the United States and our Allies,” Trump shared on social media.

“The strikes eliminated the caves they were hiding in and took out many terrorists without causing any harm to civilians.”

Concluding his statement, the president remarked: “The message to ISIS and all others intending to attack Americans is that ‘WE WILL FIND YOU, AND WE WILL KILL YOU!’”

In his remarks, Hegseth noted, “Our preliminary assessment indicates that multiple operatives were neutralized in the airstrikes and that no civilians suffered any harm.”

Hegseth added that these actions “further impair” ISIS’s capability “to plan and execute terrorist operations” and “send a clear message that the United States remains prepared to locate and eliminate terrorists.”

Trump also criticized the previous administration, alleging that the U.S. military had been attempting to target this ISIS planner for years, but accused former President Joe Biden “and his associates” of failing to act swiftly “to complete the mission. I did!”

ISIS gained significant international notoriety in the 2010s, especially in Syria and Iraq, but has since largely retreated to regions of Africa.

The ISIS affiliate in Somalia was established in 2015 by defectors from the al-Qaeda linked group al-Shabab, which is the largest jihadist organization operating in Somalia.
