A representative from the State Department revealed that the United States will withdraw from peace talks aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce addressed the media, stating that the U.S. “will not be stepping in as mediators” any longer, highlighting President Donald Trump’s dissatisfaction with both parties’ reluctance to negotiate.
“We will not be traveling around the globe on a whim to mediate discussions,” she said, emphasizing that the U.S. remains dedicated to pursuing a peace resolution.
“It is now up to the involved parties to generate concrete proposals regarding the resolution of this conflict. The responsibility lies with them,” Bruce said.
This major announcement followed closely on the heels of the U.S. and Ukraine finalizing a significant mineral agreement, establishing a joint investment fund to which both nations will contribute. This pact will allow the U.S. to potentially secure funding in exchange for military aid, training, or technology provided to Ukraine’s armed forces.
On another note, the Biden administration’s military support is projected to conclude in June, leaving uncertain whether the GOP-led House will approve further assistance.
In the meantime, Ukraine continues to procure military equipment and arms directly from U.S. suppliers. The State Department confirmed on Tuesday that it had authorized a license for “the export of defense articles, including technical data and defense services to Ukraine,” valued at over $50 million.
According to the New York Post, Ukraine is optimistic that the mineral agreement will encourage the U.S. government to facilitate military sales to Ukraine, a move the White House has previously refrained from undertaking.
Recent statements from Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio reaffirmed that the resolution of the conflict lies in the hands of Russia and Ukraine.
“It’s up to them to reach a consensus and end this brutal conflict,” Vance conveyed during an appearance on Fox News’ “Special Report” on Thursday night.
Discussing the state of the war, Vance remarked, “It’s stagnant.”
“It’s not going to conclude anytime soon,” he added.
“While the Ukrainians are understandably furious about the invasion, should we continue to sacrifice thousands of soldiers for a few miles of contested land?”
