Van Orden expresses disbelief over Biden’s response to attack in interview with Newsmax
Wisconsin Rep. Derrick Van Orden criticized the Biden administration for not adequately supporting Israel during escalating tensions in the Middle East, pointing out a shift in Iran’s aggressive behavior.
Speaking on Newsmax on Monday, Van Orden highlighted the role of former President Donald Trump in promoting peace in the region through initiatives like the Abraham Accords. He also criticized President Joe Biden’s response to the recent attacks on Israel.
“During the four years of Trump’s presidency, we did not enter into any new conflicts in the Middle East,” Van Orden said on “Carl Higbie FRONTLINE.” “He deserved a Nobel Peace Prize for that.”
Van Orden condemned Iran’s direct attacks on Israel, describing them as unprecedented. “Iran launched direct attacks from Iran into Israel. That has never happened before,” he noted.
He criticized Biden’s handling of the attacks, including a reported phone call where Biden urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to “take the win and relax,” calling it “unbelievable.”
Van Orden expressed gratitude for Israel’s efforts to combat terrorist groups like Hamas, emphasizing their role in preventing attacks on the United States.
He criticized calls from Schumer for a change in government in Israel and Biden’s leniency towards aggressors as “inappropriate” and called for it to stop.
“When Chuck Schumer tells our closest ally in the Middle East to change their government during a time of war, it’s unforgivable,” he said. “It’s inappropriate when Joe Biden lectures the prime minister of our closest ally to take it easy on those who have committed atrocities.”
The Biden administration has faced criticism from Republicans for what they consider a weak response to Iran’s attack on Israel, with many urging stronger support for Israel.
