On Saturday, Vance took to X to recount that during his outing with his young child, a group of protesters approached him.
“While walking with my 3-year-old daughter, a crowd of ‘Slava Ukraini’ protesters trailed us, chanting as my daughter became more anxious and frightened,” Vance wrote. “Slava Ukraini” translates to “Glory to Ukraine.”
“I decided to engage with the protesters in hopes that a brief conversation would lead to them leaving my toddler in peace,” he continued. “Most of them agreed.”
He described the conversation as “mostly respectful,” suggesting that anyone pursuing a 3-year-old in protest is “a s— person.”
While Vance didn’t elaborate on the specifics of their discussion, it coincides with President Donald Trump halting all military assistance to Ukraine following contentious discussions in the Oval Office with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on February 28th.
During the meeting, both Trump and Vance accused Zelenskyy of lacking gratitude for the U.S. contributions while asserting that the Ukrainian leader was currently in a “bad position” during negotiations.
“You’re playing cards,” Trump remarked. “You’re risking the lives of millions. You’re wagering World War III. What you’re doing is extremely disrespectful to this nation.”
Trump instructed Zelensky to leave the White House without finalizing any agreement, indicating he could return “when he’s ready for peace.”
Recently, Zelensky expressed regret about the meeting, indicating his readiness to pursue peace.
