Video Captures Boston Councilor Tania Fernandes Anderson Removing Furniture From Office Ahead of Guilty Plea – One America News Network

Recently released surveillance footage reveals Boston City Councilor Tania Fernandes Anderson removing various items from City Hall just weeks prior to her guilty plea regarding federal corruption charges related to a kickback scheme.

The footage, recorded on March 2nd and obtained by WCVB-TV, allegedly depicts the 46-year-old councilor vacating her office with assistance from two individuals, transporting items such as chairs, a couch, sizable plastic bags, and a rug.
The following day, her campaign finance documentation disclosed a $67.12 charge for a U-Haul rental, as reported by the outlet.
On April 8th, federal prosecutors declared that Fernandes Anderson would admit guilt to one count of wire fraud and one count of theft involving federal funds.
Her plea hearing is slated for May 5th.
It remains ambiguous whether an agreement was already in place when Fernandes Anderson commenced clearing her office in March.
Federal prosecutors are suggesting a one-year prison sentence, followed by three years of supervised release and $13,000 in restitution.
Representing Roxbury and Dorchester since 2022, Fernandes Anderson made history as the first practicing Muslim elected to Boston’s City Council. She was indicted in December on charges related to a scheme in which she allegedly secured a $13,000 bonus for a relative working on her staff — of which she reportedly kept $7,000 for herself.
Prosecutors state that the payment was improperly recorded as compensation for prior voluntary services, grossly exceeding the total bonuses allocated to the remainder of her staff.
In a separate case, she was fined $5,000 in July 2023 for breaching ethics regulations by employing both her sister and son as staff members.
Authorities allege that she intended to leverage part of the wrongly acquired bonus to settle that fine.
When hiring the other relative in November 2022, Fernandes Anderson allegedly misinformed a city employee via email, denying any familial connection with the new hire — a statement prosecutors claim was untrue.
As per the indictment, after receiving the $13,000 bonus check, the relative made three cash withdrawals between May 31st and June 9th, 2023, ultimately giving $7,000 to Fernandes Anderson in a City Hall restroom.
She further complicated her situation by failing to disclose the kickback on her tax returns. Prosecutors also claim she neglected to report $11,000 in income for 2021 and omitted personal expenditures of campaign funds on her 2022 and 2023 tax returns.
Initially charged with five counts of wire fraud and one count of theft from a federally funded program, Fernandes Anderson faced a potential sentence of up to 110 years in prison had she been convicted at trial.
Under her plea agreement, she consented to resign from the council — although she has yet to formally step down.
If she resigns prior to May 8th, a special election will be convened to fill her vacancy. If not, her successor will be elected in the November ballot.
