President Joe Biden will award the Medal of Honor to retired Capt. Larry Taylor, a Vietnam War Army helicopter pilot. In 1968, Taylor flew his helicopter into heavy enemy fire to rescue four members of a reconnaissance team who were about to be overrun by North Vietnamese and Viet Cong troops. Taylor used innovative tactics to distract the enemy and buy time for the team to escape. He landed under heavy enemy fire and whisked the team members away to safety. Taylor’s actions had never been attempted before, and he is being recognized for his selfless acts of valor. After a six-year campaign, President Biden called Taylor with the news of the award.
