Virginia House GOP Aims to Restrict Abortion, Gender Transition in Spending Bill
House Republicans are introducing amendments to a veterans affairs spending bill in order to target and prevent funding for contentious Biden administration policies. The amendments include measures to prevent funding for abortions, gender transition procedures, a program on managing gender diversity, adult cabaret performances or LGBTQ events like drag shows, and green policies and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives. The amendments also aim to ban mask mandates at military facilities and bar the inclusion of ESG panels or advisors. The House Rules Committee is expected to determine which amendments can be brought to a vote. The bill is set to be taken up by the House this week. However, the White House has indicated that it would veto a spending bill that includes these amendments.
