Voters in Maricopa County, Arizona have raised concerns after the county announced it could take 10 to 13 days to have election results.

Deputy Elections Director Jennifer Liewer announced that Maricopa County election officials are asking for voters to be patient, as it could take 10 to 13 days to be counted because of the longer-than-typical ballots and the high interest in this year’s election.

“We do expect that it will take between 10 and 13 days to complete tabulation of all of the ballots that come in, but we ask for the community’s patience,” Liewer said. “We want to make sure that this is a secure process, but we also want to make sure that it is an accurate process.”

Over 2.1 million votes are expected to be casted in Maricopa County this election. Around 400,000 individuals have already casted their votes.

“We are seeing a little bit of a lag of where we were in 2020 but the last few days we’ve actually seen an uptick in turnout,” Scott Jarrett, Maricopa County elections director, said. “So I am expecting that we will start getting very close to those 2020 numbers.”

However, some Republican voters are expressing concern of the delay, questioning the process.

On social media several users have voiced their concerns, comparing Maricopa County’s timeline to that of larger states, such as Texas.

“30 million people live in Texas, and they are going to announce the results on election night. But Maricopa County, with 2.1 million votes, says it will take 10 to 13 days. That should terrify you,” one user said.
