On Tuesday, Vice President JD Vance participated in discussions with various global leaders in France, emphasizing that “overregulation” threatens the advancement of the artificial intelligence (AI) sector.

Vance expressed concerns about Europe’s push for stringent AI regulations, advocating instead for a more open and innovation-driven methodology.
He highlighted the widening gap in AI usage perspectives among the U.S., China, and its allies.
“We’ve got to encourage our European partners to approach this new frontier with hope rather than fear,” he remarked.
As per a source familiar with his agenda, Vance plans to engage in bilateral talks with French President Emmanuel Macron, European Union President Ursula von der Leyen, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit.
“During his stay in France, he intends to meet with international leaders to discuss AI trade, unlocking American energy, and efforts to restore global peace,” a source conveyed to the DailyMail.
This summit takes place amid a competitive race for AI dominance.
Europe aims to regulate and invest in AI, while China is focusing on increasing access through state-supported tech firms, and the U.S. advocates for a less restrictive approach.
On Tuesday, Vance is likely to hold separate meetings with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and French President Emmanuel Macron, according to a report by The Associated Press.
The vice president’s trip coincides with legislative moves to prohibit China’s AI application DeepSeek due to fears it might be used for information-gathering for China.
This week’s visit will also define Vance’s role in the new administration, as his team indicated he is prepared to assist the president in any capacity required.
According to a senior administration official, Trump’s team desires Vance to be as visibly active as possible.
Trump has already dismantled several Biden-era regulations and initiated a $500 billion Stargate program to spearhead the global AI race.
“Going too far could risk alienating prospective buyers of U.S. technology in the future,” warned Matt Mittelsteadt from the Mercatus Center at George Mason University.
“France is already considering the establishment of its own sovereign AI. Perhaps they aren’t inclined to purchase American AI,” he added.
“There’s a delicate balance that needs to be maintained.”
Additionally, Vance is anticipated to discuss the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
He is expected to stress the necessity for Europe to take charge of its own security, rather than depending on U.S. support for Ukraine.
In a Monday interview with Fox News, Trump remarked that Ukraine “could potentially become Russian one day.” This comment comes shortly before Vance’s scheduled meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at a security summit in Germany.
“They may come to an agreement, or they may not. They may be Russian one day, or they may not be Russian one day.”
These comments follow Trump’s campaign assertion that he would resolve the ongoing conflict in Eastern Europe.
