Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, the former vice presidential candidate who was on the losing side with Democrat Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election, struggled to identify the current leader of the Democratic party during an interview on CNN.

In a segment aired on Wednesday, Walz was asked directly about the current leader of the Democratic party but was unable to give a firm response.

“I think the voting public right now is what I would say,” Walz replied. “We’re not expecting a charismatic leader to arrive and save us from this,” he added.

CNN anchor Kasie Hunt pressed him further, asking if he could mention anyone specific who might lead the party.

“I see a whole lot of them,” he said. “I see young members of Congress emerging, I see people out here, state senators, state legislators, individuals preparing to step up. Labor union members who are actively engaged. What we need to do is: we cannot abandon the field. If Donald Trump is out there… we must be present every day.”

“We need to be better organized. An organic uprising is already underway.”

Walz also tentatively suggested that former Vice President Kamala Harris “could be” the party’s potential leader despite her failure to capture any pivotal swing states in the recent election, even after raising a historic amount of funding for her campaign.

Moreover, a recent survey conducted by a liberal polling group, Blueprint, and reported by the now-privately-funded Politico, found that 40% of voters believe the Democratic party lacks a cohesive strategy to counter the Trump administration.

“Voters have accurately recognized that the Democratic Party has strayed from its path,” commented Evan Roth Smith, a pollster from Blueprint.

Smith went on to critique the Democrats’ reaction to President Donald Trump’s recent speech before Congress.

“The Democratic response on [Tuesday] night was largely a continuation of the approach we’ve seen thus far. While it was not overtly flawed, it failed to address the primary issue at hand: voters are uncertain about what we represent and want us to return to the fundamental principles of the party.”
